"Seattle-based producer, DJ and programmer, Nordic Soul (aka Sean Horton) is the founder, director and curator of the annual Decibel Festival specializing in promoting electronic music and the arts. Celebrating their eighth addition this September, Sean has not only transformed Seattle with his annual Decibel Festival, but continues to deeply impact the electronic community with his year-round events.
Originally from the Detroit area, Nordic Soul’s emotionally charged performances and productions offer a mélange of melodic sound design and synthesized rhythm, sequenced on top deep bass lines. The result is a cerebral take on soulful electronic music. A lover of many musical styles, Nordic Soul’s extended roots in hip hop, techno, soul, ambient and dub music contribute to his current musical palette. Since Nordic Soul’s inception in 2003, he’s shared the stage with a diverse cross section of international talent, including Trentemoller, Modeselektor, Apparat, Four Tet and many others. He has also released music on K, Buttermilk and Peloton Records.
“Grey Spring” is a collection of previously unreleased compositions that have been reworked for basic_sounds. Shying away from the more recent dancefloor material he’s known for, these compositions explore Nordic Soul’s love of hip hop, dub and ambient music. Recorded and reworked during the extended winter and spring months in the Pacific Northwest, “Grey Spring” is a somber and introspective soundtrack that should resonate well with fans of Boards of Canada, Ulrich Schnauss and Lusine."
