"Yuni in Taxco’s humble beginnings started in the fall of 2009 after recording demos in the surf town of Sayulita, Mexico. Later that winter the band played their first show at Seattle’s Comet Tavern and has since headlined a handful of their own shows playing to bigger crowds each time. Influenced by Beach Boys era psychedelia, West African guitarist S.E. Rogie and Os Mutantes, Yuni in Taxco’s self-titled debut EP – recorded at home in a bathroom – recalls the surf-pop sensibility of Girls laced with the Latin undertones of The Ruby Suns acclaimed 2007 album, Sea Lion. Combine that with reverb drenched guitars and vocal harmonies that fall somewhere between Fleet Foxes and Animal Collective and you have an exciting debut EP with a definitive DIY aesthetic. The band is currently recording material for their forthcoming full length debut expected out later this year." (Chris Adams)
